General Information

Goals & Background

Fatima Islamic School has operated regularly since March 1996. The School has held classes to improve the Islamic knowledge of our children and to ensure the progression of Islam from generation to generation. This year (2017-18) we will continue to implement the new curriculum adopted in 2007 from SABA Center in the Bay Area.

Fatima Islamic School seeks to fill the gap left by the absence of Islamic studies in the public school curriculum. It is intended to be a stress-free environment where students learn about basic Islamic rules (Ahkam), Ethics and Islamic Behavior (Akhlaq), the history of Islam (Tarikh), and Qur’anic Recitation and Arabic in a positive atmosphere.

The School runs as the education branch of Fatima Islamic Society under the supervision of our Resident Alim, Maulana Syed Mahir Husain. It is staffed by community volunteers.

To accomplish our mission we shall attract and nurture knowledgeable and capable staffs, who is provided opportunities to teach in a professional forum. We shall foster mutual respect, open communication, and partnership among students, teachers, families, and the community.

Class Schedules
The following is the proposed class schedule for the 2017-2018 calendar year. Teachers will have the final say in the placement of each child into each class. If you have any questions please contact Sister Mrs. Anita Raza

School begins with an assembly that is an integral part of the school’s schedule. It is a valuable tool for conveying information about the school, starting the day with a brief Islamic lesson, and putting the children in a spiritual, cheerful, and learning mindset.

  • Salat is a required part of the school schedule and curriculum.
  • Parents who come early to pick up their children are strongly encouraged to participate in the FIS salat and can take their children home as soon as the prayer is over.
  • Parents who need to take their children out of school early on any given day must give a signed note to their child’s teacher.
  • All students are encouraged to perform wudhu before beginning classes.
  • Students are not allowed to socialize or play between class and prayer and should instead get ready for Salat by finding a place on the prayer mat and waiting for the adhan to begin.
  • Talking and other disruptions during the prayer will be taken very seriously and dealt with immediately after the prayer.
  • Students are required to remain on their prayer mats until the final ziyarat is complete.
  • All female students who are unable to pray for a given Sunday should spend this time performing acts of worship such as du’a and tasbih, not talking or socializing on their own.

Snacks will be provided to each student at no additional cost. Please contact Mrs. Anita Raza (818-387-5783) if interested in donating toward the school snacks. A sign up sheet will be passed around.

Books required for classes will be available to students free of charge at the beginning of the school year. After that they can be downloaded from the Fatima Society website or copied from another student.
